Visa Requirements and Invitation Letter

A customised invitation letter for visa purposes is available for delegates with a confirmation that registration has been paid in full.

Visa Information

VISA maybe required online or at the local/national Portuguese embassy or consulate.

Letters of invitation are available to participants upon written request to the congress secretariat.

Besides all the Schengen area countries, the countries listed below DO NOT need a VISA to enter Portugal:

TAP Portugal has agreed to offer a discount to the participants of the “8th International Wildland Fire Conference” who make their flight booking and buy their ticket exclusively through TAP Portugal’s website.

The discounts offered are the following:

The code of the event will be available soon and must be mentioned when making the booking in order to benefit from the discount:

  • select flights and dates
  • insert the event code in the Promotion/Congress Code Box, located on the left side of the webpage. Kindly check the code to be used, according to the currency.

Important Information

  • The discount applicable to this event is only valid for online bookings made through TAP Portugal’s website www.flytap.com and with payment by credit card. The ticket will always be an electronic ticket.
  • Bookings made previously by travel agencies or at our desks are not eligible for this discount.
  • The final price shown at the end of the booking is the final fare, including the discount and all related taxes. The discount is applicable only over the fare, excluding all taxes related to the voyage.
  • The discount only applies to TAP operated flights. Bookings on or which include code-share flights operated by other airlines or on other airlines do not benefit from the discount. Code-share flights are identified on online bookings with the message “OAL” or /
  • The discount is not accumulative with fares for resident / student / child / infant /senior, etc.
  • In case the website is down, Delegates should try again later as discount is only possible on website.
  • Please remove miles discount or any other discount.
  • The discount applies only for travel to the event. It is valid for round trip journeys from any TAP destination to Lisbon or Porto.
  • The booking can be made at any time. The travel dates must be comprehended in the period of 10 days before / 10 days after the event dates. The dates of the event must be comprehended in the period of travel.
  • The discount is also extended to the participants accompanying persons (adults).
  • The conditions and restrictions regarding changes and refunds are those of the applicable fare. Please check the fare details before ending your booking.

A visa may be acquired online or in person at a Portuguese embassy or consulate.

Lisbon Airport

Lisbon Airport is centrally located and is only about 5 km from the centre of Lisbon. There is a direct connection to the Lisbon metro’s red line from the airport metro station.

How to get from Lisbon Airport to the Estoril Congress Centre

The trajectory is relatively straightforward, with several transportation options available.

·  Public Transportation: boarding the metro at Lisbon Airport, destined for Cais do Sodré station (changing metro lines at Alameda is required). From Cais do Sodré station, transfer to the Cascais train line, exiting at Estoril station. The Estoril Congress Center is a short walk (500m) from the station.

 

· Taxi: Immediately accessible at Lisbon Airport, expect a 30 to 40-minute journey, contingent on traffic flow.

 

· Private Transfer/ TVDE: Numerous private transfer services operate from Lisbon Airport, extending door-to-door conveyance to the Estoril Congress Center.

 

Regardless of the transportation option you choose, it's advisable to plan your journey ahead of time, considering factors such as travel time, cost, and convenience.

 

Letters of invitation

An invitation letter is required to apply for a visa. Upon request, invitation letters will be provided to the authors and presenters of accepted papers, posters, keynotes, tutorials, and panels, and to European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics (Q2024) attendees who have completed their registration and payment process.

After the registration and payment are completed, an invitation letter may be requested. With this letter, participants will be able to obtain a visa for the period of the European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics (Q2024).

 

Climate

The average maximum and minimum temperature in Lisbon  are 17°C/17°F (high) and 26°C/79°F (low). Please take into consideration that Lisbon is located on a river, and it can therefore be somewhat windy in the city in the late afternoon or evening.

 

Currency

The official currency of Portugal is the euro (€).

 

Electric current

The Portuguese standard is the European 2-pin socket with 220 volts AC at 50 cycles.

 

Health requirements

With the exception of vaccination certificates for persons coming from areas where yellow fever is endemic, at present there are no special health requirements.

 

Hotel check in/out policy

Normal check in time at hotels is 15:00. The established check out time is 12:00. Should you need guaranteed occupancy before 13:00 on the day of your arrival, the previous night should be reserved.

Please note that it may differ among hotels. Check your booking information in advance.

 

Local time

Mainland Portugal is 1 hour ahead of European Standard Time (CET - 1).

 

Language

The official language in Portugal is Portuguese. English, Spanish, and French are also widely spoken.

 

Medical care

Clinics and hospitals provide 24-hour emergency service.

The national emergency phone number is 112. Hotels have a doctor on call through the reception.

 

Smoking

The Portuguese law, in accordance with regulations in force in the majority of European Union member states, does not allow smoking in public transportation or in any closed public areas. However, some restaurants, bars, and clubs may have designated smoking areas.

 

Tax free

Sales tax (VAT) is included in prices quoted. For persons who are not residents of the European Union, tax-free shopping schemes are available in many shops, giving substantial savings to visitors.
